Kilter Money in Claude and ChatGPT
Last updated: October 21, 2026
Kilter Money connects to AI assistants like Claude and ChatGPT through the Model Context Protocol (MCP). Once it's connected, you can ask how your month is going, log an expense or a whole receipt, record income, or check a budget, all from a chat. The assistant works with what you've logged in Kilter Money.
What it never does
- It never connects to your bank or any financial institution.
- It never moves money, pays bills or makes trades.
- It never gets your email address, payment details or receipt images.
- It only reaches your own account, or your household's if you share one.
Before you start
You need a Kilter Money account. Create one at app.kiltermoney.com, then connect your assistant below. You'll sign in on Kilter Money's own page, never inside the assistant.
Add it to Claude
- Open Kilter Money in Claude's directory and select Connect.
- Kilter Money's sign-in page opens. Sign in, check the permissions and select Allow.
In Claude Code, run
claude mcp add --transport http kilter-money https://kiltermoney.com/mcp,
then type /mcp to sign in.
Add it to ChatGPT
- Open Kilter Money in ChatGPT and select Connect.
- Kilter Money's sign-in page opens. Sign in and select Allow.
Both also work from Connect AI agent in the Kilter Money app, which opens the right page for you.
Other assistants
Any assistant that supports remote MCP servers with OAuth can
connect. Point it at https://kiltermoney.com/mcp and
sign in when it asks.
What you're allowing
The consent screen asks for two permissions:
-
Read your spending, income and budgets
(
finances:read): your monthly summary, expenses, income, recurring bills, budgets, categories and what you owe on your cards. -
Add expenses and income
(
finances:write): log expenses and income, set up recurring bills, create and edit budgets and categories, and delete an expense or a budget when you ask.
Disconnect
In Kilter Money, open Connect AI agent from the menu and select Disconnect next to the assistant, or remove Kilter Money from the assistant's own connector settings. It takes effect right away.
Try asking
- "How are my finances this month?"
- "Add a $12.40 coffee to Dining."
- "Here's a photo of my grocery receipt. Split it across categories and log it."
- "What fixed bills do I have this month?"
- "How much do I owe on my credit cards?"
What the assistant can do
Reading:
- Get financial summary: income, spending by category, how much of your income goes to fixed bills, budgets, whether you're on track, and the change from last month. It also answers for next month, from your recurring bills and income.
- List expenses: one month's logged expenses.
- List recurring bills: your fixed bills and when they fall in a month.
- List categories and List budgets.
- List credit cards: each card and what you still owe on it, based on what you logged.
Adding and changing:
- Add expense: one purchase, or one receipt split across categories, optionally charged to a card.
- Add income: a one-off income.
- Create recurring bill.
- Create budget, Update budget, Create category and Update category. Changes apply from this month on. Past months stay as they were.
Deleting:
- Delete expense: removes it for good, along with its receipt image.
- Delete budget: its categories stay, without a budget.
Editing or removing a recurring bill, and changing a recurring income, is done in the app.
